    Aly's Adventures in AI

An introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) for elementary students (7-12 years). This module is beginner-friendly for both the child and the teacher. No prior AI or computer science knowledge is required. The materials are unplugged, and no coding involved. We use the storytelling approach. Students will learn via video lessons combined with puzzles, games and craft activities. The module videos are all online and the activities can either be done online or via printables.

MIDDLE GRADES COURSES (6-8)

AI in Middle School Science Topics

One of the 5 “Big Ideas” of AI is Perception: Computers perceive the world using sensors. This document will look at ways that living things sense and perceive things, and how we mimic that perception in computers and AI systems. It will also explore some of the ways we use sensors and AI in various fields of science, and most importantly, share resources and tools for your classroom.

Creative AI: A Middle School Curriculum about Creativity, Generative AI and Ethics

The goal of this curriculum is to teach middle school children about Creative Machine Learning techniques and how they can partner with AI to create art. We will explore tools and techniques such as Neural Networks and GANs across various forms of media, such as text, images, music, and videos. We frame this curriculum as an exploration of creativity, such that children’s creative and imaginative capabilities can be enhanced by innovative technologies. Further, we aim to have discussions throughout the workshop to highlight important ethical issues around generative AI, such as ownership of art and generation of hyperrealist fake media.

    Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence is AI for Teachers’ semester long course for high school students. In this class students will explore how and what types of data can be collected for AI systems, how computers can “learn” from these data and use what is learned to help interpret the world and make decisions. Students will identify and explore the implications of AI systems currently in everyday use in areas such as social media, mapping software, and financial institutions, and consider the emerging areas where AI will be applied.

  • English 12 (British Literature): AI in Science Fiction

This is a course plan for English 12 (British Literature) with a focus on Science Fiction and Artificial Intelligence. Students will not only learn how to use British literature to understand contemporary problems in AI and the definitions of personhood, but also see how contemporary discussions of technology are in fact the continuation of a set of themes and topics going back to the very beginning of British literature. The suggested works, discussions, activities and assignments included address all North Carolina ELA Standards for grades 11-12 .
